Are we human, or are we dancer?

First off....what is that line even supposed to mean? Are we human or are we dancer? Does that mean that if we dance we're not human? If so...well then...that's a lot of people that I know that aren't human.

Second off...or just second really. Here's my thoughts on that. Many people may think that to be "human" you must be a complete rational-based driven human being and that dancing is entering into the "irrational, imaginary" zone because what governs dance is a rhythmn and an imagination of moves that are then brought to reality. But is it always rational? Depends on what you mean. I think to be a really good dancer it means that you know your steps, you plan a dance, and you execute the said dance. You must have rationality to do this, as such, we are human dancers.

On the other hand, what the Killers may be questioning is whether when we live do we think about our actions or do we react...like a dancer reacting in a choreographed performance...less of thinking and more of conditioning and response. Hm, well, I still say that we are human dancers. Your thoughts?
On that note, I do really like "Are we Human? Or are we Dancer?" by the Killers.

One final thing, if you have any subject you'd like me to bring up and share my thoughts and listen to/read yours, comment or email me!

  1. I take that line to be about passion. Dancing is about letting go of that rational side of you and letting out the wild, instinct driven side that lurks in every human. But then my kind of dancing has nothing to do with choreography. While it may be cool to watch perfectly timed and stepped dance, I think dancing to the moment is much more "human".
